Working Together

Rio Gallinas School’s faculty bring first-class, real-world insight into the classroom.  They maintain strong local connections to provide opportunities for personal service and unique opportunities to students.  With a faculty as key leaders, Rio Gallinas School capitalizes on their expertise to solve problems and move the school to the next stage of excellence.  In 2015, we will continue a comprehensive academic and organizational review to ensure consistent and high-caliber academic programming and student support.

Amanda Ortiz: 3rd/4th Grade: amanda.ortiz@riogallinasschool.org   

This is Mrs. Ortiz’s fifth year teaching at Rio Gallinas.  Mrs. Ortiz has an AA in Teacher Education from Luna Community College and a BA in Elementary Education from New Mexico Highlands University.  She began her teaching career here at Rio Gallinas and she is committed to meaningful learning experiences and engaging topics across the curriculum.  Her favorite part of working at Rio Gallinas is observing a student learn and grow through learning expeditions and the kind and caring staff.  In her spare time Mrs. Ortiz likes to play board games with family and friends.

Paulina Salas: 5th/6th Grade: paulina.salas@riogallinasschool.org

Ms. Salas has a BA in Elementary Education from New Mexico Highlands University. After receiving her BA she moved to Denver, Colorado where she taught kindergarten and fifth grade. Ms. Salas will continue her education while teaching at Rio Gallinas. She plans to pursue her Masters in School Counseling and completing her license in Educational Leadership and Bilingual Education. Ms. Salas grew up in Wagon Mound, New Mexico with her three sisters. She is an aunt to six amazing kids, and a great-aunt to one. Ms. Salas has a true love for children, their education, and the arts. Ms. Salas loves to paint, sew, crochet, and is a professional with a glue gun. She is very excited about working with her new students and parents this 2017-18 school year.

Alma Rudolph: 7th/8th: alma.rudolph@riogallinasschool.org

This is Ms. Rudolph’s fourth year of teaching at Rio Gallinas.  Ms. Rudolph earned her AA in Teacher Education from Luna Community College in 2009.  In 2012 she completed her BA in both Elementary and Special Education from New Mexico Highlands University and graduated summa cum laude.  She grew up in Mora, New Mexico, and has lived in Las Vegas for the past 15 years.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family, traveling to new places, and reading.  She hopes she can continue to inspire a passion for learning in the students she teaches here at Rio Gallinas.


Specialized Teaching Staff

John Peden: Art/EA: john.peden@riogallinasschool.org

This is John Peden’s fifth year at Rio Gallinas.  He is the arts elective teacher for grades 1 through 8.  He is also the Educational Assistant for Special Education. John believes that artistic experiences offer a vital opportunity for the inner growth of young children and takes great pleasure in bringing them a variety of materials and projects. As a classroom Educational Assistant John brings a great enthusiasm for the outdoors, exercise, and team work.  He works hard to help foster a peaceful and structured environment. John is looking forward to helping make Rio Gallinas a “Shining Star” in Las Vegas.

Aja Currey: Special Education Coordinator : ajadotcurreyatriogallinasschooldotorg

This is Ms. Currey seventh year as the special education coordinator.  She holds a BA in Early Childhood Multicultural Education and a BA in Special Education from New Mexico Highlands University. She is a licensed New Mexico teacher with a Level II Professional License in both areas. She began her teaching career as a Voyager elementary teacher and then moved into special education. Ms. Currey is committed to giving students with all learning styles, abilities, and differences an equal education, with emphasis on hands-on, active learning.  What Ms. Currey loves about Rio Gallinas is the caring community of teachers, parents, and students that work together in the best interest of the students. She loves the excitement brought to learning from the expeditionary teaching model. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, along with her two dogs and two cats. Her favorite thing to do is to snowboard on the local mountains.

Alicia Martinez: Title I Reading Specialist: aliciadotmartinezatriogallinasschooldotorg                                                                                

Ms. Martinez graduate of New Mexico Highlands University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. This is Ms. Alicia’s third year teaching as an Rio Gallinas staff member.   From the second she walked through the purple doors and met the kind and dedicated staff and the brilliant students, she knew it was the place she wanted to start her teaching journey. As the reading interventionist, Ms. Alicia’s goals are to empower students with a strong literacy foundation through providing the extra instructional support students need and expand the learner’s knowledge of not only the world around them, but also themselves. On her days off, you will find Ms. Alicia up early with a good book, a little sunshine, and a whole lot of coffee.

Mike Jaramillo: Educational Assistant, Coach, Administrative Assistant: mike.jaramillo.riogallinasschool.org

Mr. Jaramillo is a graduate of West Las Vegas High School and is a two-time state champion. Mr. Jaramillo brings his exuberance and enthusiasm to the classroom, field, gymnasium, and wellness center. Coach Mike is a vital part of our teaching, coaching, and administrative staff.

Other Very Important Staff

Katherine Espinoza: Office Manager/Administrative Assistant: mainoffice@riogallinasschool.org

Miss Katherine is a former bank branch manager and brings a wealth of experience to Rio Gallinas. She takes care of our financial matters such as payroll, accounts payable, requisitions, and a wealth of other duties to many to mention here in this short paragraph. Miss Katherine is a Certified Procurement Officer and a Notary Public.

Kirk Ludi, Director : director@riogallinasschool.org

Mr. Ludi has been involved in education for over 25 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA), a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with emphasis in Information Systems, a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Educational Leadership.  Mr. Ludi is also a certified Master Teacher and Education Specialist. Mr. Ludi has taught at the University, Community College, and High School levels and has served as an elementary and middle school principal.

Mr. Ludi is also committed to serving his community as he is the Chairman of the Las Vegas Film Commission, a member of the Fiesta Entertainment Committee, and volunteers his time to various causes such as Keep America Beautiful and the Senior Olympics.  During his spare time Mr. Ludi is constantly taking classes at both Highlands University and Luna Community College as he feels learning is a lifelong process.

Mr. Ludi has been a former business owner,  semi-professional baseball player, musician, and head baseball coach. He has been in several movies as an extra, is working on his pilot’s license, is currently writing a movie script, and writing a book. He can sometimes be seen driving his batmobile (which he built by taking classes at Luna Community College) on weekends.
